The bloggy bit...

March 20th, 2012

I added some new buttons and pages to the website, one for videos and the other one for the shop. Plans for these pages are thus:

The videos page will be where I upload my timelapse videos for future pieces of art and also, and this is the bit I am really excited about, I will be uploading tutorials about the various stages of my paintings...this will be my attempt at giving something to artists starting out in painting in a similar style using similar materials. While I am no pro, I think I have some interesting tips to pass on, and sometimes watching them in a video is better than reading them from a book, well, for me at least :)

The shop page will contain information regarding future prints of my work, prices etc. I am currently looking into pricing options and print options and as soon as I get the details I will fill my shop page with purchasable products and all the information needed to buy a print from me.

**NEW WORK COMING SOON**
Oh yes, I have several new pieces to upload to the site including a completely new style of work which has gone down with many people, some are waiting on print price details which will be released soon.

...keep your eyes peeled! :)

Well, exciting times ahead this year I think! I have had lots of interest in my artwork recently and some of it has been by t.v producers which is very exciting indeed as I may be featured in a program about local artists from my hometown. Should this happen I will share news, links videos etc.

I recently painted a portrait of Michael Keaton's Batman, from the 1988 movie, but this time I managed to create a time-lapse video of the painting process. You can watch it here (apologies for my camera presence, unfortunately the webcam I was using only had a short lead and so the set up was difficult to get right without me getting into shot. I now have a H.D camera and so I will record more and more than likely add a Timelapses option to the site navigator)...I hope you enjoy...:

November 1st, 2011

Hello! It has been a while since I updated my website. In the time between my last post and this one, I have started development of a new style, started to rework this website (all will be revealed) and I have plans to expand the site to incude many more features. I have neglected the painting side of things this past year while I try to restore an old Amiga computer game a friend and I created back in 1995, it has been a troubled experience which has taught me to concentrate on my traditional artwork even more.

So that is what I am going to do. I have planned several paintings which will take advantage of my new style, one of which will be used for the cover of an E.P by a young and very talented guitarist called Jamie Brewer (he's on Youtube) and I am hoping to expand onto selling prints of my work very soon. I have completed a rig capable of scanning my big paintings so I can then get prints taken with all the details of the original and no loss of detail guaranteed. This just means that unfortunately I can't scan most of the work in this gallery, I will only be able to scan what I have access to....unless I am able to perform a miracle....(watch this space).

Thanks to anyone still stopping by this page, I am hoping to generate more traffic this way very soon and once I have changed elements of this page I am unhappy with then this website will finally be what I originally envisioned.

....prints to be released for sale soon....

Hello! I am still working on computer game stuff lately, even revisiting an old Amiga game that a friend and I made back in 1995 called Renegades. I recently got asked to do an interview for an Amiga website that showcases the best of the then P.D scene (Public Domain, meaning your bedroom programmers) and you can find a link to that interview and also our game (plus a couple of videos) here: http://www.amigapd.com/interview-wayne-ashworth.html

So it's mainly been a time of digital art over traditional, it goes like this from time to time, I still have canvases winking at me from the corners of the rooms. I do have a a couple of canvas-commissions on at the moment, and I recently completed a pencil portrait for a friend, something I haven't done for many years, I may upload a photo of this so people can see, it went down very well with her family and made me feel very good about the work I do.

I am thinking of expanding my gallery to include my digital work and also my pen/pencil work...it's just a thought at this stage...but I would like to include some of the work I have created for computer games/websites and also work I have done regarding creating fliers, invitations etc.

Also, I will be expanding my links page to include some really nice work by other artists so please be sure to check them out because there's something for everyone there and I am sure anyone interested in art will find many sources of inspiration there...

I am sorry things have been quiet around here recently! I have been busy with computer game projects, they are very time consuming. I am hoping to produce a computer game by the end of the year so painting-wise there won't be masses to add to this site.
Having said that I am planning a painting based on The Battle Of Britain, a World War 2 piece depicting a Spitfire (specifically Geoffrey Wellum's, I recently read his book First Light and if you're interested in WWII this book is a MUST) flying over the cliffs of Dover. I have recently become good friends with an aviation artist called James Baldwin (who's website you can find in my links) and he is very kindly guiding me through the minefield that is aviation art. Any progress on this or any other painting will be featured in a work in progress link that I will be starting.

I had a very interesting experience the other day. I emailed Drew Struzan, just to ask permission to link to his website from my website, and he appeared to check out my work in the process. I think I was pretty overcome by it to be honest, here's the guy who inspired me to paint as a kid and he was commenting on my work, my tiny mind blew up.

This is Drew's reply to my request for the link:

"Wayne,

Go ahead, feel free to LINK away.
Also, keep up the good work.  You see very well and I fully expect that with time, work and maturity you will begin to add your personal feeling to the work and begin to make it into art of real human value, insight and power.  You got the technique and will definitely bring that sensitivity to reflect your feelings soon enough. that is what we are interested in...your humanity, your feelings, your interpretation.  Make yourself great and your art will be great.  Make it yours.

Thanks so much for your kindness...drew
"

To get pointers off one of the greatest illustrators of our time has so far been the highlight of my endeavour to become a better artist.

I would like to wish my bother, Thomas a happy birthday!!, I still remember mum bringing him home for the first time when he was a baby, 31 years ago. Time flies.

I managed to obtain permission off the legendary Mike Elizalde to quote comments he had left about my Hellboy painting (on a social networking site), they were most kind and very positive! I love the idea that Ron Perlman may have seen it and commented on my work, it makes the longs nights of work seem that much more rewarding!

My printer is still not working so all planning on paintings have to stop until I can get it working again, this is a frustrating time for me because I promised myself I would be more productive and I really want to start on something new, it will definately be a montage of a movie, I don't know you...maybe Bladerunner....maybe Indiana Jones.....until my printer is fixed it will be ziltch.

I have reading the Drew Struzan book, well, the book of his art, he has some interesting things to say about working in the movie industry, when I was younger I remember seeing his poster design he did for Back to the Future and I remember thinking 'How can one man paint something that good?'
Those interested in his work can find a link to his website on my links page, also, the book is inspirational, with the most amazing art...

I have been researching Tron Legacy images, I would very much love to produce a montage based on the new movie. If you're liking the look of it then goto see it, I would say it's a touch flawed but I still loved it. But don't be surprised to see more updates about Tron...or Johnny Depp.

January 4th, 2011

Happy 4th of January!! I guess it doesn't sound the same as happy new year. Today I will be picking up my painting from the Harris Open Exhibition, here in Preston. The exhibition this year was very good, featuring some excellent work including that of my brother, Brett (links to his work coming soon, he uses a very unusual medium to work in and he's a master) but now it's over and it's time to get the work back, or it will end up in a skip.

January 3rd, 2011

Hello again! I have been busy making little tweaks to the site including a Facebook 'Like' button, I shall be making a Facebook page for my paintings in the hopes that people will add me who like my artwork, they might never have seen it otherwise and hopefully some of their friends will too.

Actual paintings will have to wait for now but I am looking forward to starting the Johnny Depp Mad Hatter, unfortunately I won't be able to start until I get my printer fixed, for some reason it has decided to pack up on me, I need it to print off my reference pictures. Rock and roll.

January 2nd, 2011

Happy New Year!

I have had a few commissions to work on lately, both were a challenge as time was against me on them, but both were completed in time so I am happy.

I have several paintings I wish to start on soon, so I think I will be introducing step by steps to show the stages of work, materials used etc.
One of these is a Johnny Depp painting of the Mad Hatter character from the Alice In Wonderland movie, my girlfriend loves one particular image and I want to tackle it, it will prove a challenge given the colours used, I hope to do it justice.
